Hiring the hall

The traditional main hall has a capacity for up to 80 people, seated at tables. It is a great venue available for various events including weddings, parties for birthdays, retirement, engagement etc as well as a good place to meet new friends and get involved in the Whitton village community. The kitchen is well-equipped and we are able to recommend local caterers. For more details click here

Whitton’s long history

Emperor Claudius invaded England in 43AD and his legion reached the Humber five years later. The Roman presence in the area has been evidenced by numerous archaeological finds. Research has shown that there was also a substantial settlement at Whitton in Saxon times. The Saxons, Vikings and Danes used the Humber to access inland Britain and their ships could easily have been seen from Whitton which offers a great vantage point. After the Norman invasion in 1066 the land was owned by Norman Lord Henry de Ferreres and in the Domesday Book of 1086 Whitton is referred to as Witenai or ‘white island of land’. Further information on the history of Whitton can be viewed here on Dr Tom Smith's extensive website 'Whitton, notes on the history of a village'

Renovation gallery

For many years the building was using by the local community as a meeting place by groups such as The Women’s Institute and, not least, for very well attended whist and beetle drives, film clubs and dances. In 2013 the Village Hall Committee sourced the necessary funding to renovate and extend the original building. The Committee plus a team of local volunteers have dedicated their spare time to assisting in the renovation and the hall was officially re-opened in October 2015.
